Shopping For Gender Equality
What if something as simple as your shopping habits could advance
gender equality? Would you say a) no, I’m too busy today, thanks, or would you b) empower yourself with the knowledge that could empower others?
The good news is, if you answered a) or b) and you shop for clothing with Leina & Fleur, then you’re doing your bit for gender equality even if it's unconsciously! Here’s how your buying habits are empowering the Femeconomy and making inroads towards gender equality…
Women are behind 85% of all purchases and drive 70-80% of consumer spending. Yet in 2021, despite women making up 51% of the workforce, only 32.5% of key management positions in Australia were held by women.
These ratios continue to drop as we climb further up the executive ladder with women comprising only 19.4% of Australia’s CEOs and 18% of board chairs.
Then there is the gender pay gap to consider. As of May 2022, there is a 14.1% difference in full-time earnings between males and females with men taking home an average of €246.70 a week more than women.
Putting those figures into context, 34.2% of Australian women have bachelor degrees or above compared to 28.3% of men.
Ultimately, while women are the ones driving purchases, they effectively have less spending power and less authority to make commercial and economic decisions.

Targeting The Bottom Line
But while we have control of the bottom line, we can make our voices felt, that’s the feeling at Leina & Fleur and also the message behind gender parity advocates, Femeconomy. Founded by executive HR and management consultant, Jade Collins and Marketing and Development leader, Alanna Bastin-Byrne, Femeconomy has been striving to progress gender equality since 2016.
As well as submitting recommendations that have resulted in state governments adopting new strategies to progress gender equality, and sitting as advisorary board members on the Queensland government’s Towards Gender Parity: Women On Boards Initiative, Femeconomy has a successful TEDxQUT Talk under its belt as well as being a repeated presence on the list of 80 Women2Watch, as Disruption Honorees in Australia and the US.
On a day-to-day basis, Femeconomy works to educate consumers, budget owners and business owners on how purchasing decisions can create gender equality; amplifying the message that if we buy from brands that have women in leadership, the impact on profits will encourage other businesses to employ more women in leadership roles.
Engaging Your Purchase Power in Fashion & Beyond
At Leina & Fleur, we've built our brand to be about more than simply women's clothing; we have developed our brand values around elevating the way women feel and empowering women to change the world by first changing our own, our alignment with Femeconomy was a natural progression.
We believe that every individual has the opportunity to make an impact and, however small it may seem, that impact has the collective power to affect change. So whether it’s as simple as continuing to shop with L&F or whether you go on to make more conscious decisions about the businesses you choose to align with, you too have the power to be an economic equaliser.
Now you've equipped yourself with the knowledge of how and why your purchase power can make a difference, go forth and point your power in the direction you want to impact.

I’d been eyeing the Tallula dress in Palms for some time. When my size was available in the sale I took the plunge. I’m so happy I did the golden colours are rich & striking. Feels amazing on, glad I tried something a little different.
I bought the skirt in the equinox print from the sales , as I have the top to match. This way I can have a few different looks from two pieces. It’s such a versatile skirt as it can be casual or dressed up depending on the shoes. Great fit and the fabric is so slinky. I am short but it’s a beautiful Maxi on me, just love how light and cool this skirt is.
A classy turtle neck for the extra warmth and coverage. Beautiful natural fibres in bamboo.
Beautiful whimsey print in a turtle neck adds class and warmth all at the same time!
This beautiful arm length and round neck make it conservative for the office and great with a pair of jeans for weekend running around!
I purchased the Bianca in candy floss and it’s really nice! I love the tie at the front as you can really cinch in the waist ( my best feature) and of course as usual the fabric is beautiful and of high quality. I am usually a 10 but have lost weight so the 8 is perfect and there’s stretch in the jersey too. I can see lots of wear in this item over the holidays when we go road tripping. I thoroughly recommend the Bianca
Amazing soft natural fibres. Conservative neckline so perfect for work when the v necks are a little to deep. Love it!
Thrilled with the Aspen top, really hoping it comes out in some bright colours! I’m 176cm and a size 8, and I find other L&F tops with the shirt-tail hemline are too short in the torso for me, but this is perfect - so I’d encourage any other tall ladies to give this one a try!
Beautiful fabric, lovely colour which will pair with so many other pieces. So comfortable and easy to wear. A keeper
I bought the lilac and saffron with the intention of returning one, but I'm keeping both. Honestly, these shrugs are one of those pieces that you put on with a t-shirt and jeans and feel fantastic, and the sleeves cover the elbow (one of my non-negotiables). I got the size 22 as that's my bra size, but its a bit snug across my broad shoulders (still wearable, just pulls the sleeves up a bit when you bring them up and forward). Next time I'll get the 24. PLEASE do in other colours...green, navy, jewel colours. Just fantastic, so thanks!
The river colorway goes well with jeans or more formal work wear. The perfect summer top - always looks so finished AND pretty!
So pleased with the deep green colour. Not my first Daphne, such a versatile style of dress!
Lovely shirt . Fabric soft and flowy . Great for work . Creases show less than on the Hunter version of the shirt and the fabric on this one seems softer too . Pleased with my purchase.
This lightweight Blazer is perfect for trans-seasonal days ... or for sun-protection as suggested by L&F. The breathable fabric makes it comfortable to wear, and I love it's stylish cut. It looks great over my longer dresses (I was wondering how it would go) ... and looks swish with my long pants too.
Lovely dress - true to size (12) and 156cm tall. Happy with my purchase.
